Do you think Cheapy made a difference?
Description
Sometimes I think to myself that I am not doing enough despite spending the majority of my waking hours working on BCH stuff. Doing regular audits of BCHF activities puts it in perspective a bit and I start to feel the opposite and think yeah.. I have actually done quite a bit.BCH has no boss, no king, no pre-mine booty to distribute, no dictator. There is no one to hire staff to get jobs done. There is no one to pay a salary. The way the community decides the way forward is by supporting the things they like and conversely not supporting the things they do not. Support can be shown many ways and one of the ways of showing support is financially. Most commonly fund raisers have been for developers. Wallets and infrastructure and algorithms that the lay person is incapable of providing. It is relatively easy to see and understand the value they add if they deliver what it is they set out to do. The thing is created and becomes available. But what about all the little non developer things that fall through the cracks? A functioning society also needs “someone” to pick up the trash, fight forest fires, someone to send out reminders about upcoming events and someone to gather and collect all the tasks that someone has not yet done. BCH needs someones to do many little things too. That is what I have chosen to do as I think it is where I have been, and can be, the most effective and needs the most attention. This campaign is probably a bit different than the typical BCH fund raiser. Typically people have some plan and they lay it out and then ask for funds in advance and people hope that they deliver at some point in the future. This campaign however is the opposite. I have done many things and paid for the expenses out of my own pocket, dedicated a boatload of time and now I’m asking the community if they think it is has been valuable to the ecosystem and if so has that work and effort been worth paying for after the fact.Originally I was going to try to think of ways to make the BCHF self sustaining with various income streams and services (as you can read about here) but after asking around it seems that we are still too small to warrant paid services that I can offer. Also, after consulting with a lawyer and an accountant, currently BCH is too small to warrant the massive cost and burden of setting up an NPO. This leaves me in a bit of a quandary.I did a survey on Twitter and Telegram: In both surveys “Direct Donation” was selected as the preferred option. Unfortunatelydespite the donation address being included on bitcoincashfoundation.org and on the news posts/videos, my rough estimate shows that the total donations (depending on the current BCH price) would not even cover the expenses I have paid myself (not a single sat has moved from donations while I have been contemplating the future of the project) let alone the vast amount of time and effort I have put in. Seeing as Bitcoin Cash works on proof of work, I am asking the community to look at my proof of work and decide if my efforts have been worth making.Q. What did BCH already get? What You Are Already Getting:Management of the Coinmarketcap.com Bitcoin Cash account with over 200k followers. The weekly BCH news in text published on 12 different platforms (over 70 weeks!).The weekly BCH news video published on 14 different platforms.Audio “podcast” version of the news on Spotify. The BCH devs and builders Telegram channel with moderation.Of the 6 telegram mods, 52% of ALL moderation activities (banning bots/removing spam etc.) in https://t.me/bchchannel since March were done by me, as well as creation and co-ordination of its mod channel and log bot as well as the creation of almost all bot filters. The BCHF rosebot federation (If anyone wants to join the BCHF telegram federation and you use Rosebot you can just paste this in your chat "/joinfed 1b2d268b-cc41-404f-b446-1a5712a6fc58").The creation of and moderation of https://t.me/bchpricechannelThe creation of and moderation of https://t.me/BCHMEMESbcash.lolThe creation of and moderation The BCHF Discord to co-ordinate the BCH swarm and provide a place for people to post post job ads, newbies to get their questions answered, as well as groups for focused discussions as needed.Moderation of the Flipstarter, r/Cashtokens, Telegrams.Being a contact point via the BCHF where various people and news organizations have been able to reach out to to get up to date and timely information regarding BCH.Outreach to major stakeholders regarding upgrading the 2024 BCH upgrade (around 300 contacts) and again when there was a bug fix.Discover.cash (with General Protocols).“Bitcoin Cash Accepted Here” stickers shipped to almost anywhere in the world FOR FREE. In the survey I said I want to give a direct donation! I don’t want to use FUNDME! I understand. Feel free to send donations to this address. Any funds donated to this address will be added to the fundme campaign on your behalf.bitcoincash:qpz6w3fkwfhj02ed7mkktyfksfvymcmwk5dfvmsfd9Q. If this is not funded does that mean you will stop doing what you do?A. No, but I certainly wont be expanding things. Depending on the realities of needing to earn an income via other means my time will be divided between BCH and a means of generating an income. That may mean needing to scale back or adjust the amount of time I dedicate to BCH to some degree.Q. Is this a fundraiser to fund all those things you hope to do? Is this a promise to get those things done? A. No, I hope to work on these things and expand the BCHF’s scope but as there are a lot of unknowns and moving pieces. I do not promise that any of them will get done. If this campaign succeeds you can be sure next year around this time there will be another and you should judge whether or not the activities I have done between then and now are worth the asking price of those things I have done in the interim.Q. Why should we pay for things we already got for free?A. If you think what I have done over the past 2 years has added value to the space and helped BCH become what you want it to be and you want to see my work continue or even MORE of it. Or you think my activities help raise the value of BCH and therefore your stack/bag and you want to see it continue or even MORE of it.Q. How many hours do you REALLY spend on this stuff? For a while I was attempting to keep track of my time. However I found it gets really murky. I have Telegram/Discord open all day everyday. While I am awake I spend most of my day at the PC and monitor every message that comes in across all the BCH groups I mod. Is it fair to measure time I am watching cat videos on reddit (with an eye on TG on my other screen)? As I already pointed out, out of the 6 BCH channel mods, 52% of mod actions are done by me and according to combot statistics for BCH channel I am also often the #1 poster in the group or at least in the top 3 depending on the week. (obviously a lot of posts are banter but I also try to help as much as I can by pointing people in the right direction. That is also just 1 of the many groups I participate in.The other work I do however takes vastly more dedicated and focused time. The news takes many hours to research, write, edit and post across all 12 platforms every week as well as then filming, editing, post-processing and posting the news video every week. During the annual upgrade I researched and verified the contact information and status of more than 300 businesses and individuals who may need to be informed about BCH’s annual upgrade and reached out to them. I repeated the process and hounded many of those contacts when there was a bug fix for BCHN later in the year as well which took probably hundreds of hours in total including follow up. Not to mention all the other outreach such as contacting various business about incorrect BCH logos/descriptions and all the things in the “What You Are Already Getting” section. I am sorry I can not give you an exact number but most of my waking hours are BCH focused or adjacent.Q. What happened to this plan: ?A. That is still a possible future for the BCHF when the BCH community is large enough to warrant and such activities. Once the ecosystem as reached critical mass, the BCHF will reconsider the options to become and NPO or engage in more self sustaining activities. All the activities of the BCHF will help towards making that possible future a reality.BCH’s Foundation Isn’t Built Alone—Let’s Lay the Next Block Together. In a decentralized world, where peer-to-peer electronic cash aims to break down barriers and empower individuals, each person’s contribution matters. I really believe that BCH is now more aligned and focused than we have ever been and we are making real headway. By supporting efforts like mine for the common good, you're not just funding one person—you’re helping build and sustain an entire ecosystem committed to financial empowerment and freedom for the whole world. Every step we take together brings us closer to a reality where digital cash works, peer-to-peer, for everyone, everywhere, and no one is left behind. Change doesn't happen overnight, nor by the efforts of a single entity; it happens when passionate communities like the BCH community unites to make the world a better, and freer place.I believe in, and am committed to, BCH’s potential to revolutionize not only the way we transact but the way we collaborate, innovate, and thrive without reliance on a central authority.Your support is more than just a donation. It’s a vote of approval for my ongoing efforts to help build something that truly makes a difference.Thank you for considering my work as part of that mission, and if you are reading this thank you for helping make BCH money for everyone with all the efforts you make as well.Let’s continue to make history together. A special shout out to those of you I asked to proof read this and give me the feedback I needed to hear.
