The Mission: A Peer to Peer Bitcoin Cash Marketplace for a Freer WorldIn a world where freedom is being throttled at an alarming rate, Konk is a tool being built for people who want an escape ramp, to trade freely without asking for permission or fear of being censored or debanked, supported and influenced by the whole Bitcoin Cash and wider freedom-advocacy community. If there was ever a time for BCH to show what it can really do in offering an alternative to the current dystopian creep, it is now! If there was ever a product that can solve the immediate problems that people are facing of controlled access to food, essentials and services, it is a decentralised P2P marketplace that uses the soundest version of Peer to Peer Electronic Cash for the world. We need the BCH version of XMR Bazaar….but better!Konk will become an uncensorable P2P online marketplace, powered by Bitcoin Cash. Anyone will be able to buy or sell using BCH as payment. No banks, no gatekeepers and no KYC.I’m building it from the ground up, alone(currently), as I believe it is a missing tool in our permissionless eco-system that will ultimately give people back their freedoms: - A real marketplace where BCH can be earned and spent directly- A platform designed for everyday trade, not speculation- A practical step toward a circular economy that works outside the systemKonk isn’t just for those already deep in crypto. Something that feels as easy to use as Amazon or Ebay, doesn’t scare people with overly doom-mongering messaging and plenty of Bitcoin Cash educational material + news targeted towards people finding the BCH community and crypto for the first time.In addition to trade via delivery networks within nation borders and internationally, Konk will have features and functions that specifically help users to trade locally for food and other goods which will provide support for local producers and sellers who are currently feeling the squeeze of regulation from government overreach. Why Konk Is Critical for Bitcoin CashWe all know that real adoption matters - and not just at merchant point-of-sale.Konk directly addresses two of the most frequently asked questions in the BCH space:1. Where can I buy things with my BCH?2. How can I earn BCH without using a centralised, KYC exchange?Konk answers both:✅ You can buy anything listed on Konk using BCH✅ You can earn BCH by selling goods and services locally or globallyHowever, this is not a “Build it and they will come” project. I’m not so naïve as to think that we build a tool and people will find it and use it, especially when it comes to crypto. I will be actively marketing to sellers in a strategic way to get them onboard.Furthermore, should Konk achieve it’s goal of becoming a “killer app”, it will also help secure the future of BCH and the freedom of everyone by bringing in fresh liquidity from new bch users and providing high on-chain transaction volume for the time when the block subsidy ends. BTC was neutered and turned its back on scaling. BCH still has a chance, but we must create the tools that drive serious demand. Konk is one of those tools. Konk’s marketThere will be 4 target groups initially with some crossover between them; People already in crypto/BCH: These users already understand how crypto works as well as the need for it as an alternative to the current financial system. This target group will naturally and organically see much of the online marketing for Konk and give it a go. It is our job to make it more attractive(ux) and useful to use than alternatives.Local producers/sellers: This group of users will be local producers of food or goods, as well as people who have items to sell from their home. The idea is to provide a direct, local link between producers and buyers that doesn’t involve large companies or stores. Facebook marketplace has become popular for P2P trade and it’s an area that Konk will look to capitalise on also. I will be organising local BCH educational meetups and seller’s markets local to myself to promote both Konk and the use of BCH and will then be sharing templates for these activities for anyone else to replicate in their own local communities.Online Small Business Owners: There are many online small business owners who have amazing products and are trying to cut through the noise on apps such as Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube to get their products seen to be able to launch or grow but many struggle to break through and their dream falls away. Konk will provide an additional market for them to advertise their products on, to a dedicated and loyal community who loves BCH-accepting businesses. I will be actively contacting these types of business daily to get them hooked and selling on Konk. Once the first start up businesses become successful because they sold on Konk using Bitcoin Cash, it will trigger a snowball of interested sellers.Current users of traditional “big” online marketplaces: If you go on Reddit and read the comments on subreddits such as Amazon or Ebay, many sellers are now leaving or giving up due to a variety of reasons from; restrictions getting tighter, having to go through additional kyc checks to ever-increasing fees and their products not being seen by the algorithm if they don’t pay to promote their products. I intend to survey these users to understand their pain points and figure out a) how to address them through Konk and b) how to make a transition to selling (and buying) on Konk as easy and attractive as possible. I believe this active communication with other marketplace users will garner strong signups and usage from Amazon and Ebay refugees.Who’s Building Konk?I go by NeonDaThal and I’m a lifelong entrepreneur and agorist, having over 15 years launching and managing businesses predominantly in the hospitality sector. I am a Bitcoin Cash maximilist and believe it’s the best chance at freeing money, and therefore the world, that we have. The more quality BCH-based businesses and apps that we have available, the more adoptees we will see arriving. I’m attempting to do my part and bring some of these apps to the market. But I knew that Konk could open up the pathway to increasing adoption among regular people so I taught myself to code out of necessity as trying to find the right developers was taking too long. But I need your help to shape how the tool develops.Where Konk is at now and why I’m rebuilding Konk from scratchKonk already existed once. I built an initial version using Wordpress and plugins which was called Agora Connect and I later rebranded to Konk. It worked well for testing and it gave me invaluable hands-on experience building a marketplace ux.But it didn’t take long to hit limits: performance issues, lack of flexibility, and too much reliance on third-party systems. I realised that if Konk was to be truly permissionless, resilient and built for the long term, it would need to be re-imagined as a standalone app from the ground up. So that’s where I stopped, started to learn to code from scratch and am now building the app using React and Next.js.Freedom and censorship-resistance matter way more than convenience and the goal is to ensure that Konk can’t be switched off and will continue to develop with that ethos at the forefront of development.The app is currently being built and isn’t yet finished but instead of working silently behind the scenes, I’ve decided to announce it now and “build in public” as I think doing so with input from the community will be interesting, fun and will actually shape the direction of Konk’s development in a more aligned way. Over the last few years, I’ve faced some personal challenges; from losing my job to helping my mother recover from a serious stroke. All restricted items will be as a result of a careful risk assessment done by Konk and based on perceived public perception.
